19th March 2020
To the Kyneton Football Netball Club community.
These are extraordinary times.
And without doubt the COVID-19 virus will present many challenges for us all in the weeks and months ahead. Challenges which we have neither experienced nor given thought too.
Forefront and centre of consideration for the Kyneton Football Netball Club is the health and safety of our entire football community. Our Senior and Junior programs. Our participants, our players and coaches, our umpires and club officials, our countless volunteers and our supporters.
We, the Kyneton Football Netball Club, are determined to be part of the whole community response to slow this virus down – and in doing so, help the broader community and our health systems to cope.
And in order to do our part, effective immediately ALL Kyneton Tigers activities are postponed. No matches. No training. No social functions. This is in accordance with the AFL Community’s directive, who have made the decision following consultation with state/territory bodies, Australian Government, World Health Organisation and the AFL Chief Medical Officers. Adherence to this directive is until 31st May-20. However, the situation is fluid and as we have already seen, it can change by the hour.
This is a critical time for community sporting clubs. The importance of our local footy and netball teams should not be underestimated. And its absence will serve as a reminder. How much we value it. At every age group it connects us socially.
The reach of the Kyneton Football Netball club is significant. It goes beyond the players, coaches, administrators and volunteers within the club. It reaches our community. For every 1 player, the club reaches 10 people in our community. It enhances the physical and mental health levels of participants in both our junior and senior program. It provides a platform to deliver health and safety campaign messages for young people. It provides a safe and healthy environment to all who wish to be a part of it.
Obviously, it is not business as usual at the Kyneton Tigers. What lies ahead is uncertain. Regardless, amidst this uncertainty, please continue your support as the committee and volunteers prepare for a shortened season. In these extraordinary times, we need to support each other.
